GIS developers have many different options for building Web GIS applications. The user experience and expectations are different if you're tasked with building an application for the general public versus an application for someone in your organization. Look at several focused JavaScript applications and walk through development scenarios that demonstrate how to build a targeted application that communicates useful geographic information to the intended audience. Once the application user experience has been designed, developers should follow a sound implementation pattern that will result in scriptable JavaScript code that is both high performing and maintainable. Topics will include using callbacks and events effectively when working with ArcGIS Server, getting the most out of JavaScript arrays and objects, and understanding functions in JavaScript.
