Abstract

Factors Influencing the Introduction of IT into K-12 Classrooms
Track: Higher Education
Author(s): Robert Bednarz, Sarah Bednarz, Andrew Klein

This paper reports on an assessment of the factors that facilitate or hinder the introduction of IT, specifically GIS and remote sensing, into the K-12 science curriculum. Both teacher and environmental, or institutional, characteristics are analyzed. The teachers whose classrooms are examined are participants in a multiyear, NSF-funded project whose goal is to produce a cadre of science educators capable of using IT effectively. Although teachers from several subject areas are part of the program, this paper concentrates on the experiences of the geosciences group.
