Abstract
 GIS Training for Civil Engineering Track: Designing Curriculum & Degree Programs Author(s): Durmus Cesur GIS have been used in many fields of science, technology, and business. Civil Engineering is one of these fields. Spatial analysis and visualization capabilities have been used in Civil Engineering to assist the planning, modeling, design and implementation of the engineering projects and activities for years. The use in civil engineering ranges from production of simple maps for planning to engineering modeling, simulation, and assessment using GIS. There are many GIS based tools, applications developed geared towards civil engineering. Appropriate use of these tools, applications necessitates training in GIS covering geographic information theory, technology and application specific issues. The need for the training is becoming more crucial as GIS starts to form the framework for almost all integrated planning, design and implementation activities and projects in civil engineering.
