Abstract
The Story of the Hillsdale 6th Grade GIS Troupe Track: Teaching with GIS Author(s): Bob Manley A Utah teacher and a volunteer from the USDA Aerial Photography Field Office had a vision to integrate the use of GIS technology into a 6th grade classroom. This task proved to be a challenge as the teacher and volunteer solicited to find computer hardware resources, data and curriculum relevant to meeting Utah teaching standards. With a tremendous amount of ongoing mentoring assistance from a network of GIS professionals and large doses of perseverance and politicking, the fruits of their labors are being realized. Students are using GIS in all curricular areas. Students are regular presenters at the state and school GIS days and at Utah GIS professional conferences. A student mentoring program teaches younger students GIS basics. The students and teacher will present the story of how GIS has been incorporated into the district curriculum and how it's making a difference in the lives of the children.
