The 4-H Blue Shirts Are Back
Track: Community Projects and Partnerships
Author(s): Lisa Conroy

For 100 years, 4-H (www.4-H.org) youth and adults have learned, grown, and worked together as catalysts for positive change in their communities. Youth engage in real community projects to acquire higher order thinking and problem solving skills, teamwork capacities, and personal accountability. Led by the USDA-CSREES and land-grant universities, the National 4-H GIS-GPS Integration Team is working to accelerate the adoption of innovative and creative uses of GIS and GPS in making social, economic, and environmental improvements in our communities, states, and nation. Come learn the process used to engage local communities as 30 4-H Youth GIS-GPS teams present their community mapping projects. 4-H club mentorship and community research collaboration opportunities for local GIS users and educators will also be discussed.
