Abstract
Practicing Participatory GIS: Youth Building Capacity Across Communities Track: Community Projects and Partnerships Author(s): Manthu Tekhna Hopeworks 'N Camden is a non-profit organization using technology as a means to youth empowerment, civic engagement, and community development. Hopeworks works with at-risk youth and young adults (both in high school as well as dropouts), training in GIS and using their skills to help bring change to their communities. The training is guided by real-world projects including parcel map development, field data collection, Census data presentation and much more. The trainees work for other organizations in Camden, NJ, and beyond. Our presentation will focus on the specifics of running such a program and include examples of some of our projects.
