Abstract
The Importance of Incorporating GIS into Business Degree Instruction Track: Designing Curriculum & Degree Programs Author(s): Eugene Anton Due to the ongoing competition in business, there is without doubt a high and increasing need for qualified individuals to fill a number of job functions with broader decision making understanding, knowledge and skills. In order to meet this need, institutions should offer GIS business education to both college and university students and professionals already in the workforce. In the Business field, strategic thinking is viewed in the context of business management and specific skills are developed in marketing, business information management, business analysis, etc.--this should include GIS program instruction. The Learning process would be focused on mental inquiry, not passive reception, (Andragogy not Pedagogical learning) through a mix of conventional lectures, computer-based practicals, problem-solving workshops and seminars. Students often will work in small groups, especially in practicals, workshops and tutorial classes. This paper will discuss the need to incorporate GIS in business education.
