Abstract
Sensing a Loss: Image Analysis of Louisiana's Wetlands Track: Teaching with GIS Author(s): Roger Palmer Remote sensing provides more than just pretty pictures or even cool backgrounds. Join us to discover wetland issues as we analyze Louisiana's wetlands using the Image Analysis extension for ArcGIS. Wetlands have been the focus of educational outreach programs such as GLOBE, the Jason Project or the USGS website WETMAAP to name a few. These kinds of projects can be nicely augmented using remotely sensed imagery. Many schools are involved in water curriculum from chemistry to macro invertebrate identification, plant collections to community water rights. Help your students learn these concepts through active investigations with visual data. We will highlight techniques such as image registration, mosaics, classification and spectral analysis to illustrate concepts you will find practical and useful in your classroom. Be sure to stop by for some great ideas in teaching math, science and geography with digital imagery. Roger Palmer GIS Education Technology Consultants 1409 S.
