Author(s): Mary O'Neill, Van Shelhamer

A Case Study in Precision Agriculture, including lessons and agriculture data sets, has been developed using data sets collected from producers in Montana and South Dakota. Lesson titles are: Comparing Climatic Conditions in Montana and South Dakota, Introduction to Precision Agriculture, Using Combine Yield Monitor Data, Comparing Yield from Year to Year, Using Variable Rate Technologies, Weeds and Their Effect on Yield, That Pesky Wild Oat, Mapping Protein in Wheat Crops, Sensor Technologies, Elevation Mapping, and Remote Sensing. Each lesson contains lesson objectives, required materials, internet sites for background information, list of new terms, protocols, background information sheets for student use, and worksheets that provide step-by-step procedures to achieve lesson objectives. Lessons will work in either ArcView 3.x or ArcGIS. The lessons use a combination of PowerPoint presentation and Esri software and can be completed in one or two class periods.
