Abstract
Community Triangulation: Community Sectors Codevelop an Interactive Mapping Site Track: Community Projects and Partnerships Author(s): John Nelson, Barbara DuFrain Students must be equipped with the necessary knowledge and technical prowess to meet the demands of the future. The educational community must provide the students with an improved geospatial sense of the world. The National Geographic Standards stated students must become a "geographically informed person." GIS using the geographic inquiry process is an excellent mind tool for constructivist-student centered learning. This interactive mapping project developed for the Corpus Christi, Texas, community, allows students, faculty, and business persons to interact. Sponsors of this public and private sectors venture include Corpus Christi ISD, Del Mar College, CorpusBeat (nonprofit organization) and Coastal bend tech-Prep Consortium. Faculty (facilitators), college students (mentors), high school students and business personnel will collaborate in the development of a continually updated and modified ArcIMS server, which will be linked to www.CorpusBeat.com. This real-world project will be continually expanded to meet the needs of the community through multimap layer development.
