Abstract

Training in Geospatial Data Collection for Field Technician Supervisors
Track: Designing GIS Curriculum for Higher Education
Author(s): Steve Palladino, William Budke

In a second USDA Hispanic Serving Institution grant, Ventura College and Allan Hancock College have continued their collaboration. In this grant, the training from the previous USDA grant has been expanded to include not only spatial technologies for agriculture but also additional environmental data gathering technologies including the emerging use of wireless, interconnected data sensors (Sensor Webs). The goal of this project is to create learning modules geared toward field technician supervisors. These modules cover the selection, installation, use, and data analysis from these various data input devices. The grant also supported a two-day Symposium on Agricultural GIS Education. It focused on the educational issues related to GIS, GPS, and sensor use in agricultural settings. We will summarize the findings of that meeting.
