Abstract

Using GIS to Map Genealogical Data
Track: Using GIS in Libraries & Museums
Author(s): Anita Oser

This is a revised version of a paper presented at the IFLA (International Federation of Library Associations) Conference in Oslo, August 2005. The purpose was to introduce genealogists and local historians to GIS and how it can be used in their research. This presentation will focus on the acquisition of the genealogical data and the problems that were encountered in making the data useful for analysis. Examples of several analyses will be included. The data used pertains to the cemeteries in Jackson County, North Carolina.
