Development of Demographics for Community and Technical Colleges Using ArcIMS
Track: GIS for Administration & Planning
Author(s): Vince DiNoto, John Gass, Matt Varney, Mike Rudibaugh

Accurate demographic data to be utilized by community and technical colleges is extremely important and relies on geographical constraints that make geospatial technology both appropriate and extremely beneficial. One of the fundamental problems is that most colleges do not have the expertise to manage GIS applications in their Institutional Research (IR) offices. Therefore, an application that could be web based and used both by the IR office and the larger college community is needed. As a demonstration project for the American Association of Community Colleges, the authors developed the applications using ArcIMS. The associated problems and successes will be discussed in the configuring, authoring, and designing of the applications.
