Track: Teaching with GIS in K–12 Education
Author(s): Gustavo Moreira

Through CLAROLINE, an LMS (Learning Management System) tool with license GPL based on the web, we offer to the teachers of History and Geography of secondary education of Chile the creation of learning activities using ArcMap and ArcGIS Publisher for the generation of maps in "PMF" format.

The data that allows us to generate the layers is taken from the public sector (www.snit.gob.cl/) and stored in the database MySQL of the LMS.

The strategy is based on the creation and access to hyperlinks stored in a layer file or ArcMap document and the use of geographic data, demographic, climate, environment, etc. of the region where the school is located. The students participate in the activities of learning through the tools offered by CLAROLINE supported by the ArcReader.
