Abstract

Remote Sensing: You Can See That from Up There?
Track: Designing GIS Curriculum for K–12 Education
Author(s): Roger Palmer, Anita Palmer

Using remote sensing in the classroom is now easier and more instructive than you may think. Realizing how this imagery tells stories that richly enhance subjects from economics, science, geography, literature, and math is the first step in feeling comfortable using it with your students. Remotely sensed images are more available than ever before. Scaled levels of inquiry can help students from elementary through A.P. to read the stories worth a thousand words!

This session will explore how lessons using remotely sensed imagery can be constructed and where to find free sources of imagery that can easily be integrated into GIS for your classroom needs.
