Abstract

Making ArcView Available to Youth—Impact on 4-H Youth
Track: Community Projects and Partnerships
Author(s): Trudy Dunham

In 2004, youth in over 100 4-H programs around the country began to use ArcView software to address community issues that benefited from the application of geospatial sciences. This presentation explores the impact of the program on youth geographic skills, career exploration, and community awareness; their community’s awareness and understanding of both GIS and youth; and best practices for implementing youth GIS programs in out-of-school settings.
