AbstractDeveloping Traditional GIS in Nontraditional Curricula Tracks Track: Designing GIS Curriculum for Higher Education Author(s): Ken Bates In October 2005, Kentucky State University began implementing a Capacity Building Grant utilizing GIS. Kentucky State University, a traditional Land Grant HBCU, does not have a "traditional" degree track (e.g., Geography) to use as the focal point for GIS. This paper will discuss the University's current developments in applying GIS to nontraditional degree program tracks, its development of a teaching lab, and outreach to other university programs and the community.
