Abstract

CGIA Leadership Facilities Regional Collaboration
Track: Community Projects and Partnerships
Author(s): George White

The purpose of this presentation is to review the role of the California Geographic Information Association (CGIA) in strategic partnerships and promoting regional collaboration. First, we will review the structure and organization of CGIA. Then, its evolving role and responsibility will be discussed. Next, strategic initiatives for promoting regional collaboration strategies will be mapped using ArcGIS 9.1. Subsequently, the key challenges and obstacles will be presented. Finally, lessons learned from the historical evolution of CGIA will be given. This presentation is important because regional collaboration is becoming a critical strategic need for communities, especially if GIS is to be effectively used to respond to the twin challenges of disaster planning and emergency response, both within the context of natural disasters and homeland security considerations.
