Abstract

U.S. Geospatial Intelligence Foundation Geospatial Intelligence Certificate Program
Track: Designing GIS Curriculum for Higher Education
Author(s): Susan Kalweit

There is a consensus among observers within the geospatial industry that the supply of qualified workers does not meet the demand of the quickly growing geospatial enterprise. The U.S. Department of Labor identified geospatial technologies as one of 12 “high-growth” industries.

Although there are a variety of professional and academic certificates in GIS, there is no accreditation program that can meet the needs and expectations of employers in the geospatial intelligence market. The U.S. Geospatial Intelligence Foundation Academy is establishing an accredited Geospatial Intelligence Certificate Program by providing curriculum guidelines and serving as an accrediting body for institutions wanting to offer the USGIF accredited Geospatial Intelligence Certificate.

This presentation on the USGIF Geospatial Intelligence Certificate Program will inform the audience on the current status of the program to include the public release of curriculum guidelines and accreditation standards.
