AbstractGeospatial Curriculum for Intelligence Studies Courses Track: Designing Curriculum and Degree Programs for Higher Education Author(s): David Padgett Tennessee State University recently established the Pilot Center for Academic Excellence in Intelligence Studies (PCAEIS) with funds awarded by the Intelligence Community Centers for Academic Excellence. Among the PCAEIS program goals is the development of a certificate program in Intelligence Studies. Three geospatial technology-based courses are offered exposing students to applications of GIS, GPS, and remote sensing applications. Cartography (GEOG 3100) introduces students to map-making and map interpretation principles. Geospatial Applications in Intelligence Studies (GEOG 3200) serves as an advanced course with students researching the larger intelligence studies concepts associated with geospatial science. The third course, Geospatial Issues in Environmental Security (GEOG 4650) engages students in the study of the earth's environment and natural resources as potential threats to global political and economic stability. Students who matriculate through the series of courses will be well prepared to meet the intelligence community's growing need for people with backgrounds in geospatial technology.
