Libraries seeking to create or expand their digital geospatial holdings will benefit from developing a Geospatial Collection Development Policy for their institution. Librarians at the University of California at Santa Barbara and Stanford University have written a Geospatial Collection Development Policy for general use. Included will be a discussion about selection, evaluation, and prioritization; scope of coverage; metadata; sources of data; and collection of GIS datasets.
