In Chile, the schools are to a click.

The main problem of the planning is the lack of a vision that integrates the different sectors from Government: education, infrastructure, budgets, etc. Each subject is treated separately for a same territory and each sector competes in the solution of problems in individual form.
The Ministry of Education, has developed a ArcSDE solution to administer geobasedatos only and shared with all the schools of the country and their spatial reference in which the 'XY' data according to the national standards (www.snit.gov.cl)
The ArcExplorer was installed in regional offices for the local educational planning and a direct access to the geobasedatos was given through the Intranet. The used format is Extended ArcXML, the XML is obligatory for the Government.
To future, the Ministry will share the educational layers and the files "axl" with the other sectors that work in he himself territory (interoperability); today, the schools are to a click.
