Abstract

Curriculum & Mapping: Exploring GIS Integration in K-12 Education
Track: Designing Curriculum for Schools
Author(s): Barbaree Duke, Shannon White

Grab your educational compass and come explore the world of cross-curricular integration with a geographical eye. GIS promotes geographic inquiry across subject areas and topics. We offer seven years of experience utilizing GIS, online mapping, and other geography resources within core subject area lessons and units. We will share our creative process for collaboration and mapping the curriculum. This approach to collaboration helps conserve important geographical concepts within the confines of high-stakes subject area testing we face in schools today. We will share standards-based GIS products and data for your cross-curricular collaboration. Whether you're interested in cross-curricular integration or including geography perspectives into your classroom, there will be something for you in this session.
