Abstract Using GIS in Institutional Advancement Track: GIS for Administration, Planning and Policy Author(s): Cynthia May The mission of institutional advancement includes identifying individuals capable of a charitable gift. The nature of charitable behavior is complex, but GIS allows us to integrate demographic factors describing potential donors. Which GIS software programs would best fit the needs of an Advancement office? Are Advancement offices already using GIS for fundraising purposes, and how are they using it? A survey collected data from across the United States on the status of GIS use in Advancement Offices at various higher education institutions. There appears to be interest in using GIS, but funding, time, and training are challenges to meet and overcome.
