Geo-Referencing the Curriculum: R.E.C.A.P.
Track: Teaching with GIS in Schools
Author(s): Barbaree Duke

Students always ask, "Why do we need to know this?" In the GIS in Education community, the question is "Why do we need to use GIS?" Incorporating what students need, required elements and standards with what consistently works in the classroom challenges every educator. GIS is an excellent tool to connect all the elements that create successful curriculum. In my curriculum writing experience a formula has emerged for 'geo-referencing' curriculum that delivers results with students: R. E. C. A. P. We will discuss the basic steps to create this meaningful curriculum along with examples of this method that use GIS as the core connecting tool.
