Abstract Intel 4-H Tech Wizards: Getting Youth Involved in Spatial Thinking! Track: Community Projects and Partnerships Author(s): Sarah Cofer, Lisa Conroy The U.S. Government lists Latino audiences as among those least likely to utilize technology tools or pursue careers in math, science, and technology. For 9 years, the Washington County, Oregon Intel 4-H (www.4-H.org) Tech Wizards project has been working to disprove this. The team has developed and utilized a culturally and developmentally appropriate experiential learning model, engaging over 500 Latino youth in computer, Internet, media, and spatial technologies. Washington County Intel 4-H Tech Wizard youth and faculty will present and demonstrate their GIS projects: City of Hillsboro Street Tree Inventory, Hillsboro Fire Department CERT (Community Emergency Response Team), and SOLV 4-H Equipo Verde - a watershed restoration project.
