Starting a GIS ROP Program

This is presentation is a step by step model for implementing a new ROP GIS class. We will discuss structuring a successful program to address the distinctly different needs of adult students and high school students. Guidelines will be presented for coordinating with a local community colleges to offer college credit in high school and adult school settings. The discussion will include forming partnerships with local agencies such as during the San Diego Wildfires 2007 for classroom projects. We will share our strategies for a successful new program, including creating lesson plans and generating community awareness. We will share our model for providing GIS cross training to teachers of varied subjects to enrich the classrooms across the campus.
