GIS Learning Objects for Agriculture and Natural Resources
Track: Teaching with GIS in Higher Education
Author(s): Joanne Logan

The college-level GIS class that I teach incorporates many examples and case studies in agriculture and natural resources. I use a screen recording software (Camtasia Studio) to capture and narrate video clips to be provided to the students as just-in-time learning objects. The video clips reinforce concepts taught in class and help the students to complete their out-of-classroom assignments. The advantage is that the students can play the video clips as often as they need, at variable speeds, stopping and starting as often as necessary. The video clips are organized by theme on the course management website. Results from a survey about the students' perceptions of the video clips will be presented, as well as a demonstration of the technology used to create them.
