Results of a Survey of California Community Colleges Geospatial Programs
Track: Supporting a GIS Program
Author(s): Christine Lewis, Ann Johnson

In 2007, the California Community College Chancellor’s office funded a 2-year project, named the “California Community College Geospatial Information Support (C3GIS)”. The main purpose of the project is to address the need for geospatial workers in government and industry and to develop a technician to management career path. In addition, the project provides support on a wide range of issues from internships to curriculum development, software site license agreements and technical support. In order to best target efforts and funding, it was decided that a survey was needed to find out just what is currently being done at the colleges. Therefore in August and September 2008, C3GIS conducted a survey of community college geospatial programs. This presentation will discuss the results of the survey and how it is directing the C3GIS efforts in 2009 for geospatial workforce development.
