Application of GIS as Educational Decision Support System

In the existing structure of education in Nepal,Higher secondary level has special place. Now, 1976 higher secondary schools are affiliated in HSEB from all over the country and about half million of students are drawing their career under Higher secondary Education Board (HSEB)Nepal. HSEB has been using GIS mapping technology as Educational Decision Support System. The GIS school mapping comprises physical location of the higher secondary schools and identification of feeder schools within the periphery of HSS. Spatial digital coverage of different layers and population of the particular area etc are required for analysis. Spatial analysis is done based on the location and attributes of layers on Arc GIS platform. GPS is used to depict the absolute location of new schools. Other statistics is managed as attribute data. Necessary decision is made according to spatial analysis.It supports to HSEB-Nepal mainly suggesting site for new HSS and find out examination centre.
