AbstractGoing Interactive: Spreading the Mapping Bug Track: Community Projects and Partnerships Author(s): Debbie Stevens, Jane Runneals Hands-on learning using GPS and GIS mapping, initiated through Esri’s 4-H grant program, engages youth and provides new avenues for community service. This presentation will cover the evolution from creating useful maps for a variety of community partners to interactive mapping which allows people to take self-guided conservation tours or virtual tours of an historic downtown area. Team leaders and members will also discuss two layers of collaboration: first, how our 4-H youth spread their excitement about mapping to other 4-H members, scout groups, church groups, and classroom students; and second, building partnerships from the local level to the national level – from working on local and state projects with county GIS coordinators and local business, education, emergency, conservation, agriculture, healthcare and government partners, to collaborating on national projects with partners like National Geographic.
