Implications of Instructional Technology Theory for Geospatial Education Research
Track: Educational Research and Teacher Education
Author(s): Shannon White

How can theoretical and research frameworks from the field of instructional technology such as Cognitive Load theory, Diffusion of Innovations theory and Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPCK), inform research in geospatial education? A critical examination of trends in existing research and theory from the rich instructional technology literature will provide a lens for methodical comparison in the current geospatial education research agenda. The implications for future research in K-20 informal and formal education with GIS infused curriculum and projects will be discussed.
