Social Entrepreneurialship: Youth GIS Projects That Pay
Track: Community Projects and Partnerships
Author(s): Jeff Putthoff, Tarren Anderson

Hopeworks ‘N Camden has been using GIS technologies for the last 7 years with at-risk youth in Camden, NJ. Through its training program, Hopeworks not only works with youth who have dropped out of high school, to help them get back into school, but has established a number of business ventures. In this presentation, Hopeworks will demonstrate an online mapping program that it created for the City Of Camden, NJ to track community concerns, speak of creating the first street map for Camden (distributing over 8,000 maps) and demonstrate an interactive, world-wide guide for the Social Ministries of the Jesuits that features organizational mapping across the globe. These products are designed and built by the youth of Hopeworks.
