AbstractTufts L-SIMS, Library Spatial Information Management Track: Using GIS in Libraries and Museums Author(s): Patrick Florance The management of interior spaces and resources is a significant concern for university libraries that are continually looking to improve access to their winding labyrinths of hallways, rooms, collections, and computers. Tufts University Information Technology (UIT) partnered with Tisch Library Information Technology (LITS) to create L-SIMS, the Library Spatial Information Management System. L-SIMS is a full-functioning 3D GIS of the interior space of the library that merges databases from LITS, Facilities, and Library Collections. A spatial database was built for each floor that includes such information as rooms, collections, personnel, walls, computer information technology, emergency management resources, etc. that allows users to perform spatial analysis and query the resources within the library.
