Role of GIS in Creating Strategy for Heritage's Conservation
Track: Using GIS in Libraries and Museums
Authors: Rashwan Khalil, Qingyuan Yang

Increasingly new technologies are expanding the horizons of historic preservation and making the fieldwork more efficient. As GIS technology grows in effectiveness as well as in accessibility, it will also become a major tool for cultural resource management. For historic preservation, accurate location data is key to become successful in learning about past building traditions, settlement patterns and past life ways.
Identifying and following trends on the landscape requires locating resources on the ground. Collecting the location data with GPS as well as basic attribute information associated with individual features, and combining that with the power of GIS to integrate different data sources, allows people to take advantage of these technologies in planning cultural resources.
The main objective of this research is to find out an approach to present a historic place, and to propose a methodology to develop conservation strategy for historical site with the help of GIS technology.
