Authors: Mohamed Yagoub

This research aimed to introduce GIS at schools in the UAE. This is accomplished through training of school students and Geography teachers in the basics of geo-informatics sciences (GIS, Remote Sensing, and GPS). The output from the study pinpointed the strength, weakness, and constraints affect on implementation of geo-informatics science in UAE schools. The study recommended guidelines for pre- and in-service teacher training programs for teaching spatial thinking using GIS and developed a model standard-based curriculum for teaching GIS at the UAE schools. The outcomes were publicized through a workshop, mass media, CDs, and the Internet. The project developed awareness about GIS among teachers, schools, and the public. It encourages schools to form vision and ambitious plans to bring GIS technology into every classroom, and thereby reform and transform themselves into 21st century schools. The introduction of GIS in schools and universities, promote educational quality, and contribute to economic development.
