arK12gis: Statewide Spatial Education
Track: Teaching with GIS in Schools
Authors: jerry prince

The State of Arkansas has initiated an exciting major advancement in education. Esri’s ARCGis software has been purchased for all K-12 schools throughout the state. That’s over 1,200 schools! This places Arkansas among the first in the nation to ensure access to advanced geospatial resources for all of its students.

This will be accomplished with assistance from The EAST Initiative. EAST, an innovative educational nonprofit, has worked closely with the Arkansas Department of Education and Esri to place ARCGis and other advanced technologies in classrooms, where students use these tools to solve community problems. EAST’s experiences in facilitating technology infused education in schools are invaluable in managing this large-scale project.

Come learn from EAST how it is making these tools an integral part of student learning and how the dynamic partnership of public, private and nonprofit organizations can ensure timely and powerful opportunities for the next generations.
