Teaching a Single GIS Course to Business Students using BAO
Track: Teaching with GIS in Higher Education
Authors: Andy Dungan

This session will address two objectives. First, the presenter, a Management Professor at Southern Oregon University (SOU), will share his experiences developing and teaching an applied course about using GIS in business. Esri partnered with the professor to use Business Analyst Online (BAO) as the primary tool for teaching the course. The advantages of using BAO are that the course can focus more on the use of GIS for decision making and less on the technological issues of using GIS. Students at SOU write a business plan as their capstone experience and thus have a substantial need for the tools and data that are part of BAO. The second objective will be to provide time for the participants to share their experiences and ask questions about developing courses and curriculum for the use of GIS in Business.
