Interdisciplinary opportunities: One Book--One Town
Track: Educational Research and Teacher Education
Authors: Marsha Alibrandi

Thousands of communities across the nation have embraced the ‘One Town—One Book’ movement. With several initiatives, including ‘The Book’ from the Library of Congress, the opportunity for GIS educators to highlight the spatial dimension for readers in all age groups and sectors is ripe. The books often feature specific regions—some of the books towns have read feature the South, Asia, the Middle East or Africa. In the town of Trumbull, CT, The Selected Works of T.S. Spivet has been announced as the 2010 book. This coincides with a new effort to integrate GIS into the town's high school Science and Social Studies curricula.
