Track: GIS for Administration, Planning and Policy
Authors: David Webb, Michael Nichols

Use of ArcGIS Server based delivery in an authentic learning GIS class exercise. Helping to test an industry developed ArcGIS Business Intelligence in the classroom.

The program will discuss the preliminary results of a collaborative authentic learning experience in a second semester GIS class at Virginia Western Community College (VWCC). R&K Engineering developed a Real Property Spatial Facility Decision Support Dashboard and shared the software with VWCC to be used as an open ended classroom project. Students are collecting and populating the enterprise geodatabase for the dashboard and have learned about data models, data types, topology and data collection in the course of the project and its application to business processes such as facility budget modeling and space utilization. Students will ultimately visualize the results of project in a Microsoft Silverlight application using the ArcGIS Silverlight Web API, ArcGIS Server 9.3.1 and SQL Server 2005.
