Track: Community Projects and Partnerships
Authors: Jeff Putthoff

Hopeworks ‘N Camden has been using GIS technologies for the last 8 years with at-risk youth in Camden, NJ. Through its training program, Hopeworks not only works with youth who have dropped out of high school, to help them get back into school, but has established a number of business ventures. In this presentation, Hopeworks will demonstrate three GIS client projects that have provided jobs, workforce development skills and the appropriate structure of coaching/practice and resource to help youth return to school.

From this session, you will learn about the specific success framework that Hopeworks uses allowing it to create opportunities for youth to grow in the needed skills and attitudes for creating successful futures. This session is for practitioners, we will get our hands dirty in the gritty details of running an entrepreneurial youth development venture using technology to work with at-risk youth.
