Track: Teaching About GIS for Future Professionals
Authors: John Ritter
The Oregon Institute of Technology (OIT) located in Klamath Falls, OR has developed a two-year Master's program centered around a project-based curriculum.
This program would focus on the creation, analysis, and management of geospatial datasets with emphases initially on land records management - a focus of the Geomatics Department in which the degree program is embedded. The first year of the program involves progressing through curriculum in database management, GIS application programming, GIS management, graduate seminars/readings, and advanced vector/raster analyses. The first year finishes with the selection of and clearance for work on an individual project the student will develop, manage, and complete during the second year. In the second year each student would be charged with the responsibility of completing their GIS project.
