Abstract
Integrating Desktop and Online to Support Distributed Learning and Assessment
Track: Teaching About GIS for Future Professionals
Authors: Christopher Smith
There are numerous advantages to supplementing face-to-face courses with online services. However standard e-education platforms are severely limited in their ability to manage GIS content. This presentation describes how ArcGIS Desktop layer package tools were combined with ArcGIS Online private group, rating and comment functionality to share, rank and evaluate student work and, ultimately, distribute classroom exercises to the broader GIS community. The presentation concludes with a discussion about the various challenges posed and opportunities afforded by integrating Desktop and Online in the GIS classroom.
