Abstract
Serving ArcGIS in the Cloud via a Third Party Host
Track: Teaching About GIS for Future Professionals
Authors: Phillip Davis, Lance Hundt
Geospatial educators have long been challenged to offer the latest GIS software technology to their learners due to technical or logistical constraints. As more and more learners are moving off campus to distance learning or hybrid model courses, the need to provide learners with access to ArcGIS software remotely is only growing. With vicious budget cuts, colleges and schools have less and less technical support on their home campuses to provide assistance. A new model of deploying ArcGIS through "cloud" computing is emerging. Colleges are moving their ArcGIS software to third party hosting companies that can provide 24x7x365 support with nearly unlimited storage space and bandwidth at competitive prices. The presentation will demonstrate one such implementation adopted by colleges across the nation.
