Abstract
Introducing GIS to Librarians and Library Students
Track: Teaching with GIS Across the Curriculum
Authors: Eva Dodsworth
GIS has opened up an entire world for us. How can library and information
professionals learn how to implement this mapping technology in their libraries? GIS technology is no longer a specialized skill for only Map and GIS librarians. Library staff from public, academic and specialized libraries are learning to use GIS to assist in their reference services, library projects and special events. Eva Dodsworth has created new courses in several Master of Library and Information Science programs to introduce new librarians to popular GIS resources. In this session, Eva will discuss how GIS is being used in libraries and which geospatial skills are necessary to hone for those working in a library setting.
