Students and teachers around the globe are using GIS in secondary school classrooms to study social and scientific concepts and processes, to broaden their skills in using this significant emerging technology, and to engage in problem-solving and decision-making about local and global issues. This panel will bring together international educators who will describe the status of GIS in secondary school teaching and learning in their countries. Each panelist will describe their educational system, a case study that illustrates how GIS is used in secondary schooling in their country, and opportunities and challenges associated with teaching and learning with GIS now and in the future. Our discussion will compare and contrast international trends and the implications of these trends for GIS in secondary education.
