Abstract
GIS for the Gamer Generation
Track: Teacher Education and Educational Research
Authors: Bob Coulter
We often think of today's 'digital kids' as naturally having the computer skills needed to succeed with GIS. This session challenges that notion, arguing instead that a more specific use of technology — meaningful game play — is a better tool for developing geospatial skills.
Beyond simple tech literacy, how specifically does playing games foster geospatial thinking?
Building on this framing question, participants will be challenged to consider which aspects of game-based learning can be leveraged to develop meaningful geospatial learning experiences.
