Abstract
ChangeMatters to ArcGIS: Introductory Remote Sensing from K-12 to College
Track: Teaching with GIS Across the Curriculum
Authors: Shannon White
Remote sensing techniques and analysis can be used in formal and informal settings to teach math, science, technology, and critical thinking. Ranging from online tools such as the Change Matters website used to explore Landsat imagery to advanced desktop tools in ArcGIS 10 provide the stepping stones to your introductory remote sensing activities and courses.
This session will introduce experiences for finding and using remote sensed imagery with GIS for the college classroom or the middle school summer camp. This includes imagery ranging from aerial photography, satellite based imagery and Lidar data. Come and consider how to integrate the skills and the concepts that tie remote sensing to the human landscape, physical landscapes and spatial analysis.
