Abstract
Engaging Medical Students in Research through Mapping and Spatial Analysis
Track: Teaching with GIS Across the Curriculum
Authors: Ann Peton
Considering all that medical students are required to know/understand, engaging them to have an extra "ah-ha" about GIS relative to what it can bring to their career and the community (s) they serve is next to impossible.unless, they see the light themselves. Utilizing Arcview, our medical students have come to not only appreciate GIS but have embodied it into their medical and PhD research. Our centers provides training, guidance and vision on how they can take what they learn to becoming community leaders and better practitioners.
This presentation will share the different research and applications that the medical students have completed with our healthcare workforce research center over the last four years and plans for their use of our internet mapping application in future student projects and faculty research.
