Abstract
From Field to Web—The Advantages of ArcGIS Explorer Online
Track: Teaching with GIS Across the Curriculum
Authors: David Smith, Rebecca Lyons
On many college campuses, faculty and students are becoming increasingly interested in taking advantage of ArcGIS Online and Explorer Online for visualizing and sharing data collected in the field. This includes the ease of drag-and-drop capabilities, sketching and presentations of ArcGIS Explorer Online. At the University of Redlands examples from the Salton Sea in Southern California and the Tetiaroa Atoll in the South Pacific highlight the options faculty and students have in creating/accessing GIS data and maps through both desktop and online applications. Central to these examples has been the employment of ArcGIS Online as both a data repository and data sharing tool for both desktop and online applications as well as the integration of ArcGIS Server map services.
In this session three examples of integrating field data from the disciplines of chemistry and environmental sciences will be presented and discussed.
